This is a slightly smaller reproduction of the rocket that Robert H. Goddard launched on May 16, 1926. It was the first successful liquid-fueled rocket and was the start of the space age. Goddard went on to obtain 214 patents that were used by NASA in the space program. Goddard has been called the father of modern rocketry and this was the most famous of his launches. Goddard was born and lived in Worcester, had his first vision of what space travel could be in Worcester, and did a great deal of his research at Clark University in Worcester. He is one of our most famous sons.
