Description

Sam Kenary: “The November Project is a free fitness and community-building movement in the U.S. and abroad that we brought to Worcester to help knit the community together.  It’s important to me because it’s redefined what it means to be social in Worcester. From growing up here, I knew Worcester was an amazing place raise a family, but I learned that it’s also a good place to be in between those two stages.”

Ivan Zvonar:  “I’m from Boston, where I was doing the November Project until I came to Worcester for school.  I’m in medicine, studying to be a doctor, so it’s important to me to get people to be active and out; I know it can be tough, especially in the winter. It’s awesome to see everyone come together. I think the biggest testament is when people meet at the November Project and then start hanging out, meeting up for runs and bike rides.”

Oral History

Sam Kenary and Ivan Zvonar interviewed by Gabriella Grilla

“My name is Sam Kenary and I’m a co-leader of November Project Worcester. It’s a free fitness and community-building movement in the U.S. and abroad that we brought to Worcester to help knit the community together.”

“My name’s Ivan, I’m the other co-leader of NP Worcester. I’m actually from Boston and I came out here for school and I was doing November Project in Boston. I was actually kind of bummed that I would have to leave but then I got here and found out that Sam and his brothers were starting it, and then I popped on and started helping him lead it. As he said it’s building community, I think it’s really important in Worcester to kind of get people out and about, first and foremost, but also just getting people to meet each other and find people doing fun things. It’s just really awesome to see everyone come together. I think the biggest testament is when people meet here and then start hanging out outside of November Project and meeting up for runs and bike rides and stuff. It’s just really cool to see how it’s brought everyone together.”

Ivan: “I like being active and getting outside and I remember when I was doing it in Boston and watching other people lead it, it was kind of motivational and inspiring to kind of get out and get at it. It’s important to me to see people just getting out, I’m in medicine so I’m studying to be a doctor, so it’s important to me to kind of get people to be active and out, and I know it can be tough, especially in the winter when it gets cold here. It’s awesome to see people really enjoying themselves because when you get here you have an awesome time. It just takes that little kick out that the door.”

Sam: “It’s important to me because it’s redefined what it means to be social in Worcester. I knew Worcester was an amazing place to grow up. I got to jump on my bike and go anywhere I wanted and my parents could also jump on their bikes and go. Worcester’s a good place to raise a family but I learned that it’s also a good place to be in between those two stages.”
